Worlds Best Easter Dress!

My sister, Ann, introduced me to the cutest little place in Oviedo called "Cutie Patootie" (how great is that name?). It's a secondhand children's clothing store and they have the cutest stuff! I don't know if you other Moms have the same problem as me, but I can't seem to find really cute clothes (or cute clothes that aren't ridiculously overpriced) for my baby girl. Quite frankly, they don't make clothes like they used to either.

Well, I went during lunch today to see if I could find Bryn an Easter dress. Well, as this post title suggests, I got the cutest Easter dress ever! I've already told my sister in law with this tid bit, but I'm going to wait until Easter to post pictures of it. I'll just say there's hand smocking involved and that's only the beginning :)

It's Good Friday this Friday and since we're closed when the courts are closed, I get the day off on Friday, so Thursday (tomorrow) is my Quasi-Friday. Dale has to work, so Brynnie and I will get some mother-daughter bonding time in. Oh the places we'll go. Like to the book store to get that book and load up on more Dr. Seuss (I've come to find, like me, they are Brynnie's favorites too and I can only read One Fish, Two Fish so many times).

We'll probably go get her Easter basket and bunny as well. Good thing she's still young enough that she'll have no idea we're shopping for her. Maybe we'll even do a little fashion show with all the great finds I got a Cutie Patootie and all the insanely adorable clothes my sister, Jeni, sent us that Avery has grown out of. If there's one thing this kid loves, it's changing her outfits (she giggles up a storm and squeals in delight when we change her clothes).

In the meantime, please let these pics suffice...

I was just playing around with the picture settings, but thought it came out kind of cool.

Dale (known to some as "Daddy") saying hello to Miss Brynnie after work.

Brynnie's always got her hands in her mouth as of late. I'm amazed she can fit anything in that mouth with all the drool that seems to have taken up residence in there.

Yeah, Yeah. I was leaving anyway...

We have 5 peacocks (even 1 albino!) that are kind enough to let us live with them (you can tell they think they own the neighborhood). They are super loud too. When they talk they sound like they're saying "help! help!". It's pretty funny.

They also like to sit on our cars and the roof of our house. They were out there this morning, but I only managed to get a picture of one. He was quite annoyed that I had the nerve to ask him to get off our car and proceeded to strut his stuff down the driveway and off to another neighbor's.

Morning Mr. Peacock.

Yeah, yeah. I'm leaving, I'm leaving.....

You guys made me come outside to see the peacock? And he's already gone? Sheesh. Take me back to my bed, peons.

Later in the morning, we took Brynnie to Dale's parents for her Sunday with them. We've been off schedule for the past few weeks, and you can tell they missed Miss Brynnie (and she was quite tickled to see them too).

"How Much To Ride Your Pony?"

It was another beautiful day here in O-Town (making up for the seemingly never-ending Winter this year, I suppose) so we decided to walk down to "our" Publix to get my Claritin with Brynnie and Jack.

On the way back home, we walking by one of the many restaurants in Thornton Park and a few guys were standing in front of one and asked us, "How much to ride your pony?", in reference to Jack. It was freaking hilarious. Sometimes post titles just write themselves :)

Here are some pics of our outing.

I had to go to the doctor this morning because I was feeling pretty poorly (turned out to be allergies - never had them before in my life) and Brynnie and Dale had a mini photo shoot while I was gone. I love this picture!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are so fortunate to live where we do. I mean, on days like this, it is so great to wake up to this right outside your front door!

Goodbye Balints!

Jeni, Pete and the kids got back from their cruise today and we all had lunch before they had to go to the airport. They had a great time, but they were pretty exhausted and ready to get back home after a long week. They'll most likely be back down for the regular 4th of July -Jeni & Gary Birthday - Beach Extravaganza, which is always a good time.

Just a wee bit tired. Did I mention it was a long week for the Balint family? This was Avery on the way to the airport to go back home.

Happy Birthday Lukie! Cindy got Lukie a dinosaur cake for his birthday at our lunch. He turns the big 3 on Tuesday!

Avery decided to wear Cindy's glasses. Such a ham! Too funny!

Grandmama and Brynnie at the office before we went to lunch.

Avery and Bryn in Grandmama's office. All my nieces and nephews are so sweet and gentle with Miss Brynnie.

Look how ladylike Bryn is. She was so exhausted - adorable as always!

Lunch Posts

So, in an effort to increase our funds and decrease my waistline, I have limited my "eating out" lunches to once a week. I just realized that an added benefit to this could also be that I can possibly post more of the goings-on of the McCrystal household while eating at my desk. Although we're quite boring, it will at least keep everyone up to date!

I swear, this week seems to be never-ending. We had such a busy (but wonderful) weekend, so maybe this week seems so long because we haven't had any time to relax. Whatever it is, I wish it would just speed up a bit. I'm looking forward to accomplishing one task this weekend. Just one...

I want to switch the nursery and our bedroom. There are many reasons I want to do this - her are some:

-Our bedroom is about twice the size of Brynnie's, which currently is her nursery and our guest bedroom and will be the room for Bryn's little brother or sister for a year or so after they're born until our big, big renovation (yes, this is a ways away);
-Brynnie has quite a bit more furniture than we do;
-We love our dear, dear animals, but they like to make a lot of noise and Bryn's room is located in a very central location in our home and she goes to sleep before all of us;
-The bathroom attached to our room has a tub in it - the one attached to Brynnie's current room only has a shower.

There are many more reasons, but those are just a few of the main ones.

Now I just have to talk my lovely husband into disassembling the crib and helping me move furniture. If there's anything I love doing, it's moving furniture with Dale. If he just understood that my way is always the most efficient, then things would go much more smoothly!

Mundane Mondays

This was taken today. How great is that face?

Wow - I was seriously going to start out this post talking about how happy I am that I was able to do my "Mundane Mondays" for two consecutive Mondays. Um, then I realized it's Tuesday.

I did take the following pictures, however, on Monday. Bryn's outfit in the pictures is so cute! I came home and Cindy had her in it and I go "oooh, where did this come from?" Cindy said, "Her closet". Man, I guess I need some sleep, huh?

Anyway, I can still manage to press the button on the camera and pose Miss Brynnie - for now....

Pssssshhhh, ain't nothing to this sitting stuff (as long as I have my Bumpo seat).

Oooooh, FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

I love sitting on the couch too!

Wilson Family Baptism (Day 2 of Cousin Weekend)

This morning we went to Ann's family's Baptism. Everyone was on their best behavior and it was so great that everyone (except Aunt Mel, who had to work) could be there.

We also wanted to get a picture with all the cousins. Jeni got all the kids cute matching outfits from Janie and Jack and after we got back to Ann's after the Baptism we set out to take the picture.

When you try and get 6 kids, all 4 years old or younger for a group picture, chaos ensues. Please to enjoy....

Avery is always "camera-ready". Merrick loves him some Avery. He was her shadow all weekend.

Just the girls (Avery, 4; Bryn 3 months; and Mercer, 2).

All the cousins - Luke's not really "into it", as you can see.

"Baby Bryn" was a hot commodity. Everyone wanted to hold her, feed her, etc. It was really cute. You can see in this picture, Mercer is trying to vault over Maddox to get to Bryn.

All the cousins again (Luke is a bit turned around). It was hilarious trying to get them all to take a picture. Thank goodness, Dale had the bright idea to whip out the video and record it all for posterity.

Mercer's Birthday Party (Day 1 of Cousin Weekend)

Day 1 of our family weekend was quite busy. In the morning we went to Grandmama and Grandpa Tom's for breakfast. It's about an hour each way, and Bryn was a trooper (at least on the way there). She hates the car more than anything, so we were happy we got a reprieve on the way out there.

Later in the afternoon, we went to Mercer's 2nd birthday party. It was a ton of fun. There were so many people there and tons of kids. I think it exhausted everyone, kids and adults alike. It was a great time and we got to spend a lot of time with everyone.

We wanted to get a picture of Bryn and Lily next to each other. Bryn (left) is 3 months and Lily is 5 months. Too cute!

Lukie as the festivities were winding down. By this point, the poor kid was running on fumes. He needed cake just for the sugar to refuel him.

Mercer blowing out the candle on her cake.

I wish I could have gotten a better picture of Mercer's hair. There were about 40 or so people at her party and kids were everywhere. It was a crazy atmosphere and you know, sometimes snow cones end up in hair!

Jeni, Bryn and Grandpa (Brynnie's great-grandpa).

Ann and the birthday girl.

Cindy and Bryn. Bryn loves her Cindy.

Tiff and Me. How depressing is this - I've lost 50 lbs since Bryn was born - FIFTY - and you can't even tell I've lost any weight?! I'll put a side by side of me at 9 months pregnant and me today and I swear, you can't tell. Sheesh!

This was taken in the morning at Grandmama and Grandpa Tom's. All the kids are so sweet with Bryn. There's Merrick, with his favorite lady, Avery.

New Stroller

So, Bryn isn't a fan of her car seat and both strollers we have, you have to use her car seat in them because she's too young/small to go in them without it. Dale actually found a stroller online and sent me the link. Ordered it on Tuesday and it came in on Friday (Albeebaby.com has free shipping on orders over $100 and everything I've ordered usually gets here within days, including both strollers - thanks Ann for telling me about that site).

The weather has been so nice and the time change has afforded us the opportunity to go out for a walk each night when Dale gets home from work (with Jack in tow, of course). Although we've been busy this weekend, we still managed to take our new stroller out for 2 walks.

WE LOVE OUR NEW STROLLER! It's so easy to maneuver and, most importantly Bryn seems to really enjoy it! It's so great to get outside too. Here are a few pictures of the Bryn's new ride:

Side shot.

Brynnie loves it too!

Dale's very happy with our choice. I have to give him credit; he's the one who found this stroller.

Brynnie Bryn is 3 Months Old

Okay, she turned 3 months old on March 16th, but I haven't had a second to update the blog. Also, we can't find the cord to Dale's camera to upload the pictures from her 3 Month Birthday. We last had it at the hospital when Bryn had the H Flu.....

Everyday we become more and more in love with her. She is a joy. A pure joy. We can't wait to see her each night after work. Everyday she's doing something new. She's amazing!

Mundane Mondays

All the blogs I read are so cute and have fun things for days of the week like "Flashback Friday" or, Jen's new one "Sunday Savings". I'm pretty boring, so I figure "Mundane Mondays" should suit me pretty well. Actually, I'd love life to start becoming monotonous, if just for a few weeks (or months).

The most interesting thing that's happened to me is my weight loss - 10 lbs in 3 weeks! Woo hoo! I'm now down 48 lbs from the birth of Miss Brynnie. I have quite a few more to go, but I know I can do it.

Today is also my oldest sister, Ann's, birthday. Happy Birthday Ann!!!!!!

My sister, Jeni, and her family come into town on Friday and we have quite the jam packed weekend. Mercer's birthday party on Saturday and Ann and Gary's baptism on Sunday. I can't wait to see everyone. I'm hoping to get some great pictures to put on the blog as well. In the meantime, please enjoy some randoms of Bryn.

I love bath time!

And, yeah, that is our kitchen counter that she's laying on top of. So what?

This has become our new safe haven. While Dale and I eat, Brynnie sits next to us in her "massage" chair.

Last Night

It's starting to stay lighter longer at night and I could not be happier about that! When Dale got home from work last night, since it wasn't dark yet, Bryn and I decided we'd join Dale and Jack on their nightly walk. Well, we get her all ready, put her in her carrier, get the stroller base out of the car and take about 20 steps outside. I look down and her nose is bright red and her eyes are almost watering. We decided it was a bit too cold for Brynnie to go on a walk. I'm still so excited, though, because I know the cold weather can't possibly last forever (can it) and we'll soon be able to get out and enjoy the parks that surround our home.

Also, Dale has been incredible about getting up with Bryn during her 2:00 am-ish feedings (I get her until midnight, then again at about 5:00 am). Although he's gotten up with her for the past few nights, I still wake up because I hear her crying on the monitor. Well, I thought I'd be a super nice wife and sleep in Bryn's room this evening so Dale could get some monitor-free, uninterrupted sleep. It just so happened that Miss Bryn decided that last night would be her first time sleeping through the night. She slept from 8:00 pm until about 5:30 am. She really does love me so much! I'm taking one for the team and sleeping in her room again tonight. Will I be so lucky as to have a repeat performance? I highly doubt it.

Hey, I thought we were going for a walk?!!! You put this dang hat on me for nothing?

How cute is this?

We love when she "sleeps like an adult". She loves resting her head on her hands.

Bryn and Dale watching TV. Yes, I know we're the best parents ever, letting her watch TV at 10 weeks. Cut us some slack, though. We'd just gotten home from the hospital (as you can tell from all our clothes and bags strewn about in the background).

I love this picture. She just likes to hang out on his lap and see what's going on. Again, Dale looks so tired because we'd just gotten home from Arnold Palmer. Cot sleeping is so refreshing!

At Least We Have Our Health......

Oh, wait.

Ah, where to begin....Last weekend started out quite promising. I had plans to go visit one of my best friends, Tiffany, on Saturday so we could meet each other's babies (her daughter, Lily, was born 2 months before Bryn).

When we got Bryn up (or she got us up) on Saturday morning, she had a little mucus in her eye that I just wiped away. Dale pointed out that her eye looked a little red in the corner, but I said it was just from me wiping it a second ago and I believe said to Dale, "you're just being paranoid", and I was off on my way to Melbourne.

Bryn slept almost the entire way to Melbourne, a little over an hour's ride. Thinking back, this should have told me something, considering she HATES the car. So, we get to Tiffany's and I notice the mucus has built back up in her eye. I thought she might be getting a cold (I had let Tiffany know of Bryn's mucus before coming over and she said she wasn't worried about it, i.e. getting her kids sick).

While at Tiffany's, I notice Bryn's eye is actually getting redder and producing a lot more mucus. Tiffany said it looks like conjunctivitus, which her older daughter just had. It didn't look like much of anything at the time. The swelling really wasn't bad yet. Although I agreed with Tiffany, and feeling kind of silly, I decided to call Dale and ask him to call the pediatrician, just to be safe. We're first-time parents and although I don't freak about everything, it's still nice to get a professional's opinion on some stuff, especially with all the medical drama we've been going through. Dale said the pediatrician told us to come in at noon. Thank God they're open until noon on Saturdays!

We get to the pediatrician and get in to see the doctor (not ours, a partner of the practice) at about 1 pm or so. By this time, Bryn's eye was getting more and more red and swollen. We're still thinking we'll just get an ointment or antibiotics and be sent on our way. The next thing I know, we're being told that Bryn needs to be admitted to the hospital and she's calling to set it up right now. The doctor said that it looks like the "Hib virus/disease" and this is very dangerous, possibly leading to loss of eyesight, etc. Bryn just had her vaccines, including the Hib Vaccine, 11 days ago, shouldn't this have been covered? We were told the vaccine may have not had a chance to be effective yet, or she might have become infected before the vaccine, etc.

We immediately go to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital to be admitted. Dale dropped me off and ran home to get supplies for our stay. It worked out perfectly as I registered Bryn and about 2 minutes after actually getting to our room, Dale came back.

We saw the first doctor, Dr. Schulze, upon our arrival. She was probably about my age, maybe a little older (her age actually does have some relevance - keep reading). She said Bryn's eye looked a lot like a blocked tear duct, but also an infection, and started her on IV antibiotics. Now, I had just gone through the hell that is seeing Miss Brynnie get her shots, and I let Daddy be the point man on staying with her while they put the IV in. There's only so much you can take.

Brynnie was wonderful while they put the IV in. She was the perfect patient. Actually, she never ran a fever or even acted sick, aside from a few crying spurts, but even those were maybe a handful of times.

After her first dose of antibiotics, Bryn's eye swelled up even more, if that was even possible. This scared the hell out of us even more, if that was even possible. This lead the doctor to believe this was definitely an infection as the medication went straight to her eye (the infection) and "attacked" it. Because the swelling got so much worse, the doctor ordered a CAT scan (or, as Lauren said, "if it's for a baby, it's a kitten scan) for Bryn's eye to make sure the infection wasn't behind her eye.

By the next morning, her eye was already much much better. The swelling had drastically decreased and the mucus was almost nonexistent. When we first got to the hospital, they had taken blood and gotten a sample of her eye mucus for a culture. Our worst fears were that Dale and/or I had infected Bryn from my numerous infections. We are so careful, to the point of bleeding hands from excessive washing, that this would just be devastating. How would we be able to care for her? There was literally no way we could be any more careful.

We got the results back from the CAT scan and everything was normal. Again, thank God. Her blood work looked okay too and the 24 hour results from the culture were showing that it most likely wasn't strep or staph (which is what it would have been had she gotten sick from my infections).

By the third day, the swelling was gone and so was the mucus. Miss Brynnie just had red all over her eye due to hemorrhages from the infection. We also met with the head staff doctor (a long lost brother of Pete's - we swear), who we just loved. He said Bryn looked great, which she did.

I had taken pictures of Bryn at various times at the hospital to document her eye and send updates. Thank goodness I did, as these pictures were extremely helpful to the doctors that had not seen her when at her worst. He asked if we minded participating in rounds (you know, like Grey's Anatomy), which we didn't. He also said most likely we'd be discharged and sent home with the oral version of the two types of antibiotics Bryn had been on via IV and once we got the final culture back, we'd cut out the unneeded antibiotics.

By the time rounds came by, the culture had come in and sure enough, it was the Hib Virus, or "H Flu". Now, this is where the age of the doctor comes in handy. When we first went to our pediatrician's office, the doctor we saw said she was concerned because of the color of Bryn's eye and that it looked like the Hib Virus. The chance of contracting the Hib Virus is so small now because this is one of the vaccines that children routinely get. The only reason our doctor was so concerned was that she had been in practice long enough to have seen many cases of the Hib Virus as the vaccine has only been standard for 15-18 years. Had we not seen this doctor, we most likely would have been sent home with a topical gel for her eye. The doctor we first saw in the hospital didn't mention the Hib virus either, presumably because she had not had experience with it as the doctor at our pediatrician's had. We were told H Flu/Hib is extremely, extremely dangerous by our pediatrician, but I prefer not to look it up to see exactly what could have happened had we not taken Bryn to the hospital.

Through all the medical problems we've experienced, our saving grace through this all, as I've posted and said numerous times, has been that at least Bryn is perfect and healthy. Her getting sick was devastating.

When we called everyone to tell them that she was going into the hospital, we got a resounding "Are you kidding me? Haven't you guys been through enough?!!!!" I don't think anyone would blame us for taking the attitude of "why does this keep happening to us?" Instead, we're trying to look at the past 11 weeks as "We've been through all this and still managed to come out of it okay". I think that's the only way we can look at it now.

For me, I have my little Brynnie taking a nap right next to me as I post this and my Dale napping down the hall. For those two reasons, I am one grateful lady.

How sad is that? It was impossible to look at her without tearing up. She didn't seem to mind it, though.

There is no ointment on her eye. This is all mucus that was coming out of her eye. She went from nothing at all, to this in less than 24 hours. Scary.

Here's Bryn sleeping in her hospital crib. As Jeni said, "she looks so peaceful, you know except for the block of wood attached to her arm".

Here is Miss Brynnie on Friday night, just hanging out. Little did we know we'd be in the hospital in less than 24 hours. Look at her eyes - perfectly normal.

Brynnie asleep. I swear, these cribs look more like cribs for babies in jail. If you'll look to the right, you'll see the edge of our twin size, fold-up cot. Dale and I slept there, together, each night. Honestly, the mattress had the consistency of a half-inflated air mattress, the frame shifted violently whenever you'd get on or off it, and it sagged in the middle, but man I still slept pretty great on it.
